We have a significant number of special needs residents at Poquoson Animal Welfare Sanctuary.  They are considered special for a variety of reasons, but primarily it is due to age and health conditions.

 

The care and feeding of a healthy cat averages $400 annually, which covers food, litter, flea/tick treatments, routine medical exams, and vaccinations.  So you can imagine how the costs escalate when they require additional veterinary care, special diets, and various medicines.

 

Our budget is spread between the kitten intake and adoption program, vet visits, facilities operation, trapping, spay/neutering, and of course maintenance of our special needs residents.  As a result, there is a continuous need for donations to help support all of our mission focus areas. 

 

IS THERE AN OPPORTUNITY TO HELP?

 

Absolutely!  You can become a sponsor for your favorite special needs resident (or residents!).  This is ideal for folks who are not able to own a cat (or any more cats), but who would like to take a vested interest in these kitties who may not have the opportunity to experience a loving family environment.  Sponsors are also encouraged to visit their sponsored cats at the sanctuary as often as they would like.
